Arthur Romilly Fedden, his paintings and drawings, his wife Katharine Waldo Douglas, her literary works and their son Robin Fedden and his literary oeuvre.
Thanks to the dedicated research and commitment of the Basque cultural association Giltzarri of St Jean de Luz, Romilly and Katharine’s work has been brought into focus. Giltzarri has realized a charming French edition of ‘The Basque Country’ with Romilly’s illustrations and new material on their lives.
It is a personal travel account weaving together social, cultural, historical and linguistic aspects of this remarkable French region. It is a valuable record of the past.
We are compiling a catalogue raisonné of Romilly’s artwork and would love to hear from anybody who owns one of his works, or knows about a work in a collection or in private hands outside Britain.
We are particularly interested in his pictures of the Basque Country, North Africa and France.
