Welcome to

Arthur Romilly Fedden, his paintings and drawings. His wife Katharine Waldo Douglas and their son Robin Fedden.

We are writing a catalogue raisonné of Romilly’s artwork and would love to hear from anybody who owns one of his works, or knows about a work in a collection or in private hands outside Britain. We are particularly interested in his pictures of France, the Basque Country in particular and North Africa.

A French editor is due to republish The Basque Country written by Romilly’s wife, illustrated by Romilly. Published in 1921 it’s a personal travel account weaving together the cultural, historical and linguistic aspects of this remarkable region spanning the western Pyrenees and the interesting people encountered.

Thanks to the dedicated work of the Basque cultural association Giltzarri, research is ongoing on Romilly’s artwork.

His evocative watercolours and Katharine’s travel account are a valuable record of the past.
